who we are, and how we get paid

When a consumer is considering the purchase of a life or health insurance product, it is important they have a complete understanding of the product, how it meets their needs, the company offering the product, the advisor and the advisor's business relationships. In keeping with this, the following information will assist you in making well informed and sound decisions and will provide insight into our relationship with the life insurance carriers and how we are compensated.

Who are we

Arthur Guest is an independent life, accident and sickness insurance broker. He represents a large number of insurers in searching out the best products and services to meet the individual needs of his clients. Through a referral network of registered insurance brokers in all of the provinces and territories across Canada, Arthur Guest is able to service your insurance needs no matter how remote your location may be. Within the province of BC he operates under the trade name "Salt Spring Insurance Services", and outside of BC, he operates as "Arthur Guest, Insurance Advisor".

What makes us different? For starters, we don't carry any sales quotas or obligations to any one specific insurance company. As brokers, we provide you with a list of all the companies eligible to you and discuss the differences between each one. Price is always the biggest distinguishing factor, however our expertise delves deeper than that. We explain the features, the renewal rates, conversion privileges, cash values, investment components, and give you a full transparent understanding of all the potential benefits.

Shop for life insurance as you would with any other product. For example, if you were in the market for a new flat screen TV, how would you go about purchasing one? Like most consumers, you would probably walk into a big box retailer, and take a look at several different brands. Once you found your pick you could either buy it on the spot, or, go across the street and check out a few other retailers to see what the competition is pricing that same TV for.

When you go directly to an insurance company for a quote (they are the websites promoting only one brand name, or the big banks) you'll be stuck paying their fixed in-house price for that particular policy. Think of the above TV analogy. Insurance companies are no different than a big box retailer, and unlike buying a used car, life insurance pricing is not negotiable. Once approved, the healthier you are, the better the rates will be. That being said, you could be overpaying if that exact same policy was being sold down the street for much cheaper.

This is where we come into the picture as brokers: let us shop you around. We love doing the work, so you don't have to!
